Great Sushi at an Unlikely Place in Thousand Oaks - Crazy Tokyo King King Sushi

Crazy Tokyo King Kong Sushi in Thousand Oaks

Hidden Gem in the Janss Marketplace

My family and I find ourselves at the Janss Marketplace in Thousand Oaks more than we would like to admit. Whether it's for our daughter's karate classes, workouts at the Gold's Gym, seasonal events, or just plain shopping we are there several times per week. It is during one of our frequent visits to the marketplace that we came across Crazy Tokyo King King Sushi...and our lives would be changed forever!

For those of us who have lived in the Conejo Valley long enough, Crazy King Kong is located where the old Akio's restaurant used to be. Not much has changed in the look of the restaurant since the Akio days (I think even the decor is the unchanged) but the food and service is far from what I remember of the prior restaurant that used to be here.

When you walk in you are greeted by friendly staff and if you go often enough they remember your names and what you like to order. There is a large sushi bar and plenty of tables throughout the restaurant, although we always choose the sushi bar. The sushi chefs pay incredible attention to detail and serve a wonderful and diverse selection of rolls and traditional Japanese and Korean dishes. The fish is always very fresh and often you can see a sushi chef prepping and slicing a whole fish into filets that has just arrived to be enjoyed by patrons that evening.

The most amazing thing about this restaurant is how much you spend because of their incredible drink and food specials. They have Happy Hour all day...that's right I said all day every day! That means there is a list of sushi and specialty rolls that are always on special. They also have 98 cent Sapporo on draft and sake bombs (limit 3 per customer...someone must have abused it at some point). More recently they have also been offering 20 percent off of all of their premium rolls. My family ends up spending half of what we would have at other sushi restaurants and still get amazing food. That's a win-win!

We have told many friends and family about King Kong and they now frequent it almost as much as we do. I hope Crazy Tokyo King Kong sushi is around for a very long time because it is our little hidden gem in Thousand Oaks and we plan to go there for years to come!
